MASSAGE & THERAPIES
At Baliga Clinic, we offer various Ayurvedic therapies among them our massage therapies are most popular service. We understand the profound impact of massage therapy on both body and mind. Our approach to massage is deeply rooted in Ayurvedic principles, emphasising holistic healing and individualised care.
Massage therapy, a practice rooted in the manipulation of soft tissues including muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues, has been embraced by various cultures worldwide for thousands of years. It involves the application of structured or unstructured pressure, tension, motion, or vibration to the body’s soft tissues.
Practical Application and Techniques:
Effleurage: Long, gliding strokes used at the beginning and end of a massage session to warm up and relax muscles.
Petrissage: Kneading and compression movements targeting deeper muscle layers to release tension and improve circulation.
Friction: Applied pressure using thumbs, fingertips, or palms in a circular or transverse motion, effective for treating muscle spasms and scar tissue.
Tapotement: Rhythmic tapping, patting, or pounding movements to invigorate muscles and stimulate nerve endings.
The Science of Touch:
Human touch is a powerful healing tool. Research shows that massage therapy can reduce cortisol levels, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety. It also stimulates the release of endorphins, natural pain relievers, aiding in discomfort alleviation.
Our skin contains various receptors such as free nerve endings senses pain and temprature; Merkel discs, Krause end bulbs, root hair plexus and Meissner corpuscles senses touch; Pacinian corpuscles and Ruffini endings senses pressure. These sensory signals are transmitted to the brain via the afferent neurons. The brain process the information and sends out signal via effrent neurons which help us to produce voluntary / involentary reflex (such as removing hand from a hot plate) reaction. These signals can lead to release of edorphines and enkephalins in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord and inhibit afferent pain fibers, there by reveving pain. They may also reduce stress and improve a sense of well-being. Dynorphins and nociceptin are other types of neurotransmitters which can cause pain which maybe seen during opiod withdrawal. Good opioids such as endorphins relieve pain and create euphoria while the bad opioids like dynorphins cause pain, anxiety and depression.
Activation of the somatic efferent and autonomic efferent divisions of the peripheral nervous system during massage can induce relaxation and a sense of well-being. Autonomic efferent division regulates involuntary body responses, such as hart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, etc.
Improving Circulation and Immune Response:
Massage therapy effectively enhances blood circulation, comparable to the benefits of a workout. It facilitates the efficient delivery of oxygen and nutrients to body tissues. This improved circulation aids in the removal of waste products and supports lymphatic drainage, thereby strengthening the immune system. Additionally, massage can serve as a therapeutic tool to gently work the muscles and stimulate the nerves, making it a valuable alternative to exercise, especially during recovery from sports injuries.
Holistic Benefits for Mind and Body:
Our massage techniques are designed to harmonise the body, mind, and spirit. Integrating traditional Ayurvedic practices, we address physical, mental, and emotional well-being, reducing stress, enhancing mental clarity, and fostering inner peace.
Benefits of Massage Therapy:
Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Alleviates stress and promotes relaxation by triggering the release of endorphins.
Pain Relief: Relieves muscular tension, reduces chronic pain, and improves joint mobility and flexibility.
Improved Circulation: Enhances blood flow, promoting better oxygenation and nutrient delivery to cells.
Enhanced Mental Well-being: Positively impacts mental health by reducing anxiety and depression, and improving overall mood.
Physical Rehabilitation: Aids in injury recovery, improves range of motion, and alleviates muscle soreness.

Sports massage helps increase blood circulation, promotes muscle growth and encourages a fast recovery ensuring you are fit and ready to perform again as soon as possible. • First, during an initial consultation, your therapist does a postural analysis and asks about any muscles that require special attention. • Your treatment may include the entire body (135 min) or one specific area or muscle group. • Then your therapist asks you to undress to your comfort level and leaves the room. • Once you are ready, your therapist begins by warming your muscles with light compressions, effleurage and petrissage. • Then the therapist uses a combination of long gliding strokes, kneading, deep friction, trigger point release, myofascial release, stretches (STR), MET and pulls to perform the massage as per the individual requirements • After the massage, your therapist discusses a self-care plan or recommends a follow-up treatment, if necessary. Essential oils penetrate the body as they are absorbed through the skin. These essential oils impart benefits to both mind and body, including improving mood, alleviating pain and detoxifying the body. Eg. Ashwagandha is a herb used as an adaptogen and is anabolic.
Second Stage: In prone position: laying on the couch facing down. The massage is performed on the back, upper and lower limbs. Focusing on releasing tension or relieving pain or just for relaxation. Oil is chosen based on the requirement.
Third Stage: In Supine position: laying on the couch facing up. The massage is performed on the face using specific aromatic oil. Then the upper and lower limbs, including the foot. In the end, the massage is performed over the abdomen to improve digestion.

Ayurvedic massage evolved from thousands of years of traditional Ayurvedic medicine.
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) is a unique form of floor-based massage, originating in India. Nicknamed “Lazy Yoga”, it combines Ayurvedic massage techniques and Pranayama (breath-work) with gentle, yoga-inspired stretches.
AYM is incredibly transformative and relaxing, due to the activation of stretch receptors in your skin and muscles, as well as the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system via breath-work. It is known to improve the range of movement for yogis and athletes or anybody who would like to improve their flexibility.
This treatment revolves around close communication with your therapist, especially regarding feedback on the stretches and suggested breath-work throughout your session. Your therapist will use a combination of hands, elbows, as well as using their feet to perform the massage while offering stretches to your muscles at key joints. The duration of treatment is particularly longer than our regular massage sessions as we perform the treatment on the whole of your body covering most of the stretches with special attention given to your problem areas and breath-work. This may be the amount of time required for you to feel relaxed and grounded. The treatment can be tailored to your needs and the massage from the foot may be eliminated/optional if we find it is not suitable for you based on your complaints or if this is causing any discomfort to you or if we feel that the time allocated is just not enough for the whole treatment, this may be discussed during your consultation before the treatment.
This highly spiritual and grounding massage may easily be integrated as part of your self-care routine; fortnightly to bi-monthly, supporting a yogic lifestyle, or addressing the day-to-day stresses of life.
Due to the dynamic stretching nature of this treatment, we recommend that all women wear a sports bra and snug-fitting shorts, as you would for an intensive yoga session.
The following day, post-treatment, you may experience some discomfort or pain if you are not accustomed to the wide range of motions you will experience during your massage, similar to a new workout routine. After this treatment, You may take a hot shower at home or go to a sauna, to enhance the detoxing effect and any discomfort must fully subside within a few days.
This is one of the most beneficial massages to improve your range of motion and your athletic or yogic performance.

+ Psycho Veda Therapy
Pricing
Online - 50 min - £80
In-person - 50 min - £95
Psycho Veda is a unique, integrative model that merges Ayurvedic principles with psychotherapy, blending deep psychological insights with Ayurveda’s holistic approach to the mind, body and spirit. This model aims not only to promote healing but also to deepen self-awareness and establish a harmonious connection with the natural rhythms of life. Drawing on Ayurvedic dietary principles, lifestyle regimens (swasthvrtt), ethical behaviour (sadvrtt), and holistic practices - including natural herbs and yoga - Psycho Veda supports comprehensive mental and physical well-being.
This approach fosters mental and spiritual wellness through the ancient Indian practice of Satwawajay Chikitsa, or mind control therapy. Traditional Ayurvedic psychotherapy focuses on spiritual growth and mental discipline as pathways to healing. One of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems, Ayurveda categorises treatments into three types: Satwawajay Chikitsa (mind-control therapy), Yuktivyapashray (rational therapy), and Daivyapashray (spiritual or faith-based therapy). Satwawajay, with its focus on “winning the mind” through mental and emotional balance, provides a complementary alternative to contemporary psychotherapeutic methods.
Satwawajay therapy, rooted in the ancient Charaka Samhita (one of the primary Ayurvedic texts), uses spiritual wisdom, philosophical insight, memory, and concentration as tools for mental discipline. These principles, when applied, harmonise the intellect (dhi), patience (dhrti), and memory (smrti), helping to counter the mental imbalances in Rajas(agitation) and Tamas (lethargy) which Ayurveda views as roots of psychological distress.
Central to Ayurvedic psychotherapy are strategies inspired by mythology, such as the Hanuman Complex. Here, the tale of Hanuman (the monkey god) symbolises the discovery of inner strength, a therapeutic metaphor similar to empowerment strategies in Western therapies. Moreover, Achar Rasayana - a behavioural regimen rooted in virtues such as truthfulness, calmness, and compassion - serves to strengthen psychological resilience and moral well-being.
In Psycho Veda, emotional replacement, assurance therapy, and shock therapy are key aspects of Satwawajay therapy. Unlike conventional methods that may suppress negative emotions, Ayurvedic therapy works to replace them with positive ones, guiding patients towards a balanced emotional state. This transformational process supports individuals in realigning with their natural balance, all within a framework of personalised care.
Ayurveda’s approach to mental health blends philosophy and therapeutic practice, giving significant weight to the alignment of body, mind, and soul. Integrating Ayurveda with psychotherapy creates a culturally rich model of healing that not only addresses psychological symptoms but also nurtures the individual as a whole—mind, body, and spirit.
What Psycho Veda Offers Psycho Veda explores multiple facets of life through a spiritual perspective, addressing personal, financial, relational, sexual, intimacy, and marriage-related concerns, as well as experiences of abuse and past traumas. The aim is to support individuals in building a fulfilling and balanced life.
One-to-one Sessions are held once a month, contrasting with conventional weekly therapy sessions, and may be attended alongside regular psychotherapy. For those seeking a more frequent engagement, sessions can be scheduled fortnightly. To initiate your journey, we recommend booking Initial Consultation Option 2, where we assess your dosha, understand your personal concerns, and develop a tailored plan for your sessions.
